Cedeira: What to See, How to Get There & Travel Tips

A practical guide to visiting Cedeira, a lively coastal town and one of the best base points for exploring the Serra da Capelada.

Cedeira is one of those towns where everything revolves around the sea. The harbour, the seafront promenade and the beach form a compact whole that is easy to walk and perfect for a relaxed stop. The old town blends traditional residential areas with a lively atmosphere, especially around the harbour, where most of the bars, terraces and restaurants are concentrated. **Praia da Madalena**, right next to the centre, is a wide, sheltered and very accessible beach — ideal for a walk or a short stop if the weather allows. Beyond the town itself, Cedeira is also the gateway to the Serra da Capelada and to places like San Andrés de Teixido, which makes it a natural midpoint within a longer route.

Best time of day

Cedeira works especially well around lunchtime or in the late afternoon. It's the perfect place to stop, sit at a terrace and enjoy the atmosphere without rushing.

The essentials

Don't leave without taking a walk through the harbour, where much of the local atmosphere is concentrated. Stop by **Praia da Madalena**, perfect for a quiet stroll along the water. Very close to the centre you'll find a fascinating cluster: **Sonreiras Cove, the old sea-water tank (*cetárea*) and the *castro* fort**, all within a few minutes of each other. It's a lesser-known spot that brings landscape, history and sea together in a small area. If you want to extend the visit: • **San Andrés de Teixido**, one of the most symbolic places in Galicia • **A Vixía de Herbeira**, the highest cliff in continental Europe • The **Castillo de la Concepción (18th c.)**, with great views over the estuary
