Fouciño do Porco Trail: What to See, How to Get There & Travel Tips

A practical guide to walking Fouciño do Porco, one of the most spectacular coastal trails in Galicia, with wooden boardwalks suspended over the Cantabrian Sea.

Fouciño do Porco — officially Punta Socastro — is one of the most striking trails on the north coast of Galicia. The route runs along a narrow peninsula that pushes out into the Cantabrian Sea, connected by wooden boardwalks that weave between the cliffs. Its popular name *(literally "pig's snout")* refers to the shape of the headland, which juts into the sea like a tongue of land. The walk is short but very visual: climbs, descents and turns that keep opening up new views. It's one of those places that can't be understood from a single photo — you have to walk it. **Important:** during the high season (summer), booking in advance is required, as visitor numbers are capped.

Best time of day

It works especially well in the middle of the day, when the light fully illuminates the trail and the sea. In high season it's worth planning the visit in advance. A quiet afternoon is also a great option if you'd rather avoid the crowds.

The essentials

At the entrance of the Viveiro estuary, in O Vicedo, this striking viewpoint rises above Pereira Beach and Area Grande. The trail runs along wooden boardwalks with some steps and gentle climbs, opening up a coastal landscape that stretches from Xove to Estaca de Bares. The views are fully open and change with every step, with cliffs, sea and a jagged coastline on the horizon. Although there's some elevation change, it's a great walk to do with children: the path is clear, safe and visually engaging the whole way.

How to visit Fouciño do Porco Trail as part of a route?

For us, Fouciño do Porco is one of the strongest points on the route to Viveiro. It works well as the centrepiece of the day, with quieter areas before and a more relaxed stop after.
